Andreas Evangelou first started working in his grandfather’s Fish and Chip Shop at the early age of 13 and continued working throughout his college years. At the age of 21 he returned to Cyprus and married his wife, Eleni. Andreas and Eleni stayed in Cyprus for the next two years.
After realizing that Cyprus was not the place to be Andreas returned to England were he rented the ‘John Dory’ Fish and Chip Shop in Bamber Bridge. Andreas spent eight years in Bamber Bridge, where be built and substantially increased a loyal trade.
After a two year respite in Cyprus, Andreas returned to Preston, in 1992, and purchased the then Illingworth’s Chip Shop in Penwortham. His working hours increased from three hours per day to a staggering twelve hours per day operational. On some days, preparation time further inflated his work days up to eighteen hours per day.
After the first year, Andreas revamped the shop and took the brave and bold move to rename the shop from ‘Illingworth’s Chip Shop‘ to ‘Andreas Fish and Chip Shop‘. The shop layout was completely changed, an extension completed to accommodate the changes.
With the new update, a new range and frying equipment was in order. This is where ‘Andreas Fish and Chips‘ was born!
This family business is still today managed by Andreas and the Evangelou family.
